 The Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) celebrated a major milestone with the successful hosting of its first-ever volleyball tournament on Sunday, May 31 at the Derrimut Sports Stadium. Drawing in over 130 participants and supporters, the event was a vibrant celebration of sport, community, and connection. With 10 men’s teams and 2 women’s teams competing, the tournament delivered exciting, high-quality volleyball and a fantastic display of teamwork and sportsmanship. The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with enthusiasm, encouragement, and a strong sense of togetherness. The competition saw outstanding performances from all teams, with Dadabada Smashers emerging as the champions in the men’s category and Kudla Queens claiming victory in the women’s tournament. Both teams showcased exceptional skill and dedication, making the finals a highlight of the day.                            This weekend, our International Students group took some well-deserved time out to explore the beautiful Sherbrooke Forest trail in Belgrave and what an amazing day it turned out to be!   From walking among the towering trees to enjoying peaceful trails, great conversations, and a relaxing lunch together, the experience was truly refreshing.   On Sunday, 19 April, the Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) once again opened its arms—and its kitchen—to international students, hosting a heartfelt Students’ Lunch at St Joseph’s Catholic Church Hall, Northcote. The gathering brought together Mangalorean Catholic students from across Melbourne for an afternoon of shared meals, laughter, games, and cultural connection—many of them far from home, family, and familiar faces. The event began on a deeply meaningful note, with Fr Aqin Lindon Noronha joining the gathering to bless both the students and the meal. His presence added a spiritual depth to the afternoon, reminding everyone that MKC’s initiatives are rooted not only in culture and companionship, but also in faith. The community truly felt blessed to have him there. While the lunch could easily have been catered, the MKC Committee made a conscious and heartfelt decision: the food had to be home cooked. Just about 1.5–2 hours north of Melbourne, there’s a small rural town called Mangalore, Victoria and it has a fascinating connection to Mangalore (Mangaluru), India. 🤯  🤝 How are they connected?   A Day of Prayer, Reflection, and Community at Bacchus Marsh The Melbourne Konkan Community gathered in large numbers on Sunday, 22 March 2026 , for the annual Way of the Cross held at the serene hill grounds of Our Lady Ta’ Pinu Shrine, Bacchus Marsh . It was a spiritually enriching afternoon marked by solemn reflection, meaningful prayer, and deep community connection. A Pilgrimage Experience on the Hill The warm weather added both challenge and significance to the walk up the hill, encouraging participants to reflect more deeply on the journey of Christ. The shared experience of climbing together as one community made the devotion especially moving and unifying. Monday, 11 March 2026 (Labour Day weekend)  Webster Reserve, Point Cook was buzzing with excitement as 7 men’s teams and 3 women’s teams battled it out in a full day of league + knockout matches. What made it even better? 👉 So many youngsters stepping up , showing skills, spirit and sportsmanship. 👉 Families & friends cheering loudly, bonding, laughing and making new memories. 👉 And of course… the biryani break that eased the mid‑day tension and fuelled the players for the rest of the games! 🤣🍛 🏆 Women’s Tournament Stellar Sharks took home the championship, with Rising Stars finishing as runners‑up! The MKC Weekend Away was definitely the latter — a beautiful blend of community, laughter, faith, food, and togetherness that reminded us exactly why MKC is so special.   We had an absolutely wonderful day celebrating the start of the Christmas season at the Djerring Community Hub in Flemington . The weather was perfect, and our hearts were full as our amazing community came together to prepare for the arrival of Lord Jesus . ❤️ The kids had the time of their lives with balloon twisting , fun games , and delicious food —their joy truly made the day special. The atmosphere was full of excitement, thanks to our talented MC Sharal D’Çosta , who engaged the community so beautifully. A true gem we have discovered! 🌟 We were blessed with Konkani Christmas carols , and a heart-warming Tableau performed by the children and youth of our community. Their effort and spirit brought the true meaning of Christmas alive. One of the highlights of the day was the endless spread of homemade kuswar, sweets, and bakes —all lovingly prepared by our community members and shared with everyone. This past Sunday, the Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) hosted its annual Youth Day Out , and what a memorable day it turned out to be! A total of 38 enthusiastic youth and 7 dedicated volunteers set out to Gumbuya World , ready for a day filled with excitement, laughter, and connection. From the moment the gates opened at 11 AM, the group immersed themselves in all that the park had to offer – thrilling rides, interactive wildlife shows, and the beautiful Australian outback experience . The energy and joy were infectious! 🎢🐨 Every ride brought laughter, every show sparked curiosity, and every shared moment created new bonds. At 4 PM, the group wrapped up the day with big smiles and lasting memories before heading home safely – thanks to the support of our incredible volunteers who drove and cared for the youth throughout the day.
