MKC hosts inaugural volleyball tournament, uniting families and youth
The Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) celebrated a
major milestone with the successful hosting of its first-ever volleyball
tournament on Sunday, May 31 at the Derrimut Sports Stadium. Drawing in over
130 participants and supporters, the event was a vibrant celebration of sport,
community, and connection.
With 10 men’s teams and 2 women’s teams competing, the
tournament delivered exciting, high-quality volleyball and a fantastic display
of teamwork and sportsmanship. The atmosphere throughout the day was filled
with enthusiasm, encouragement, and a strong sense of togetherness.

The competition saw outstanding performances
from all teams, with Dadabada Smashers emerging as the champions in the men’s
category and Kudla Queens claiming victory in the women’s tournament. Both
teams showcased exceptional skill and dedication, making the finals a highlight
of the day.
More than just a sporting event, the
tournament reflected MKC’s broader vision of building an inclusive and
connected community. By encouraging families and especially youth to
participate, MKC continues to create opportunities for people to stay active,
engage socially, and form meaningful relationships.
Participants echoed this sentiment,
highlighting the positive impact of the event. One attendee shared, “We loved it we want more of this!” while another added, “It gave me an opportunity to
meet more people and feel part of the community.” These reflections capture the
essence of what MKC aims to achieve through its initiatives.
Special recognition goes to sports secretary
Jolwin Rebeiro, whose leadership and dedication ensured the smooth planning and
execution of the tournament alongside his team. The MKC Committee was also
acknowledged for their ongoing commitment to organising events that bring
people together despite their busy schedules.
The community extends its sincere thanks to
the Jolly Boys Team for sponsoring the event. Their support reflects the strong
spirit of giving back and community involvement that continues to strengthen
MKC.
Events like this are a testament to MKC’s
mission to create a welcoming space where individuals of all ages can come
together, celebrate their shared culture, and build lasting friendships. The
strong participation of families and youth highlights a growing enthusiasm for
such initiatives and reinforces the importance of community-driven events.
Following the success of this inaugural
tournament, MKC looks forward to hosting more events that promote
participation, foster unity, and create memorable experiences for everyone
involved. Visit us at www.mkc.net.au for more information.
