An Unforgettable MKC Weekend Away: Food, Fun, Faith & Friendship
There are weekends you enjoy… and then there are weekends that stay with you long after they’re over. The MKC Weekend Away was definitely the latter — a beautiful blend of community, laughter, faith, food, and togetherness that reminded us exactly why MKC is so special.
A Delicious Start
The weekend kicked off in true MKC style — with everyone bringing a plate to share. Tables filled up quickly, and for a moment, we honestly wondered how dinner would ever be eaten. But rest assured, once the biryani made its grand entrance, every grain found a home. No leftovers. No regrets.
Friday Night Fun: Lungi Night Takes Over
Friday evening’s Lungi Night theme quickly turned into an unexpected highlight. What began as a dress theme evolved into a full‑scale MKC fashion show, with everyone strutting their stuff and embracing their inner supermodel. No one sat this one out — the confidence, humour, and dance moves were all on display. One thing was clear: MKC definitely has the moves!
Saturday: Action, Adventure & a BBQ
Saturday was packed with activities and energy. From high ropes to canoeing, there was no shortage of adventure. Many took to the water — despite the lake not winning any beauty contests — because canoeing had to be done! It was all about giving things a go, cheering each other on, and having a laugh along the way.
A wholesome BBQ lunch followed, bringing everyone back together before the afternoon eased into free time. Some explored the town, others enjoyed quiet conversations, and a few wisely opted for a well‑earned siesta.
Disco Night: When the Dancefloor Came Alive
By 7pm, the energy was back. Disco Night kicked off with DJ Clinton behind the decks, and what followed was nothing short of electric. The dancefloor stayed alive with our feet moving until they simply couldn’t anymore. Sweat, smiles, and nonstop dancing — it was one for the books.
All that dancing built up an appetite, just in time for an incredible Mangalorean buffet. Plates were piled high with Kori Roti, Beef Chilly, Dukra Maas, Chicken Noodles, Chana Tendli, and finished off with delicious Vorn for dessert. The variety was unreal — so much food that managing it all on one plate became a challenge of its own.
Bonfire Nights & Singing Stars
No camp is complete without a bonfire, and ours delivered everything you’d hope for. Kids roasting marshmallows, Antakshri echoing under the Marysville night sky, and a sense of togetherness that only moments like these can create.
When the night grew a little too lively, we simply shifted indoors — where the singing stars of MKC took over. Voices, laughter, and music filled the space, sounding even better as the night went on.
Sunday: Faith at the Heart of It All
Sunday brought a peaceful and meaningful close to the weekend. Celebrating Mass with Fr John Dupuche was a true blessing and the perfect way to ground everything we had shared. Faith, gratitude, and reflection wrapped up a weekend that had been full in every sense.
More Than Just a Weekend
This weekend wasn’t just about activities or food — it was about connection. Making new friends, reconnecting with familiar faces, and strengthening the bonds that make MKC a community. As Valerian so perfectly summed it up, in one weekend, we celebrated everything MKC does throughout the year — dancing, BBQs, Mass, sports, and togetherness.
Gratitude All Around
A heartfelt thank you to the MKC Committee, whose vision, dedication, and hard work made this incredible weekend possible. Pulling together an event like this takes planning, effort, and passion — and it truly showed.
Thank you also to every member who joined in, helped with tasks, lent a hand, and brought such positive energy. You made this weekend what it was.
As promised, the funds collected during the weekend (after expenses) will be donated to a local Marysville charity. We’ll be sharing more details soon.
Until then, enjoy the photos and the memories. If this weekend proved anything, it’s that when our community comes together, something truly special happens — and we’re already looking forward to the next one.
