(MKC) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, 20 October 2025 , at St James the Apostle Community Hall, Hoppers Crossing , where members came together to celebrate the past year’s achievements and welcome a new leadership team for the year ahead. This past Sunday, the Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) hosted its annual Youth Day Out , and what a memorable day it turned out to be! A total of 38 enthusiastic youth and 7 dedicated volunteers set out to Gumbuya World , ready for a day filled with excitement, laughter, and connection. From the moment the gates opened at 11 AM, the group immersed themselves in all that the park had to offer – thrilling rides, interactive wildlife shows, and the beautiful Australian outback experience . The energy and joy were infectious! 🎢🐨 Every ride brought laughter, every show sparked curiosity, and every shared moment created new bonds. At 4 PM, the group wrapped up the day with big smiles and lasting memories before heading home safely – thanks to the support of our incredible volunteers who drove and cared for the youth throughout the day.   The Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) once again came together to celebrate Monthi Fest , one of the most important feasts for Mangalorean Catholics. This year’s celebrations, held in Melbourne, brought together over 720 people as one nig famil. Preparations for the event began months in advance, with the MKC Committee working tirelessly to make this year’s celebration bigger and better than before. The day began with a solemn Mass celebrated by Fr Prakash Menezes and Fr Charles Menezes . Fr Charles delivered a moving sermon that deeply touched the hearts of all present. The traditional veneration and showering of flowers by children – a beautiful custom that connects the community back to its Mangalorean roots – was a highlight of the liturgy. The choir elevated the Mass with carefully chosen hymns that enriched the worship with joy and devotion. But beyond the fierce rallies and the winning smashes, something even more meaningful took place: community happened. At MKC, events like these are more than just sports or entertainment—they are opportunities to bring people together , celebrate our shared heritage , and strengthen the bonds of friendship and support that define our Konkan community here in Melbourne. 🫶 Why We Do This – More Than Just a Game The world moves fast, and in the hustle of work, school runs, and life admin, it’s easy to lose touch with our roots and the people around us.   MKC’s very first Children’s Day, was a wonderful success at BOUNCEinc Essendon Fields a perfect way to wrap up the school holidays! With approximately 36 children in attendance and beautiful sunny weather, the day was filled with smiles, laughter, and joy. The children had an amazing time during a 90-minute Bounce and Play session, which they absolutely loved and fully engaged in. Afterwards, both kids and parents enjoyed delicious pizza and refreshing drinks. To end the celebration, each child received a special goodie bag from MKC President Rita Fernandes — a token of appreciation for being part of our vibrant MKC community. A big thank you to Venicia Dsouza for taking the lead, and to all the MKC Committee members for organizing such a memorable event. The Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) made history this June by hosting our first-ever Basketball Tournament , and what a phenomenal day it turned out to be! From enthusiastic young players to spirited parents and roaring supporters, the event saw over 130 people come together , turning a regular Sunday into something truly special. 🌅 Early Start, High Energy The day kicked off bright and early at 8:30 am with registrations. The venue was alive with energy – the sound of bouncing basketballs, upbeat music, and excited chatter filled the air. After a warm welcome, MKC Treasurer Elias Mascarenhas led a heartfelt prayer, and President Rota set the tone with a message about playing responsibly, especially when teamed with our younger participants. 🏀 Let the Games Begin!
