ð MKC’s First-Ever Basketball Tournament – A Day to Remember! ð
The Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) made history this June by hosting our first-ever Basketball Tournament, and what a phenomenal day it turned out to be! From enthusiastic young players to spirited parents and roaring supporters, the event saw over 130 people come together, turning a regular Sunday into something truly special.
ð Early Start, High Energy
The day kicked off bright and early at 8:30 am with registrations. The venue was alive with energy – the sound of bouncing basketballs, upbeat music, and excited chatter filled the air. After a warm welcome, MKC Treasurer Elias Mascarenhas led a heartfelt prayer, and President Rota set the tone with a message about playing responsibly, especially when teamed with our younger participants.
ð Let the Games Begin!
The tournament followed a league format, giving each team an opportunity to play around 4 games. The high-octane matches kept the crowd cheering and players on their toes throughout the morning. Whether on court or off, the excitement was infectious.
To keep everyone fueled, the break featured hot samosas, followed by a mouth-watering South Indian lunch of idli, vada, and sambar, generously provided by The Grand Saffron Restaurant.
ð¶ The Surprise MVPs: Our Under-12s
What wasn’t part of the original plan turned into one of the most memorable highlights – a spontaneous 3x3 tournament for Under-12s, added at the request of supportive parents. Watching our youngest talents hit the court with such confidence and joy truly stole the show!
ð The Grand Finale
The day ended with an epic final match between Splash Bros and Biryani Bandits. It was neck-and-neck until the final whistle, but Splash Bros took the win in a nail-biting finish. More than trophies, it was the camaraderie, encouragement, and community spirit that shone the brightest.
ð A Team Effort
This event wouldn't have been possible without the dedication and hard work of Gordon, Edwin, and Mayola, supported by the MKC Committee. It’s moments like these that show how MKC is evolving – it’s no longer just the committee carrying the load. Our community now has extra wheels and fresh steam, and we’re excited about the path ahead.
“MKC is now more than a committee – it’s a movement powered by passionate members and community spirit. This is just the beginning!”
