Image
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) hosted its Backyard Farmers and Students Lunch, a heartwarming event that brought together students, backyard farmers, and community members for a day filled with connection, learning, and celebration. The day began with a prayer led by Albert Fernandes , setting the tone for a meaningful gathering. Following the introductions, Stephen D’Souza kept the energy lively by conducting fun games, allowing students and community members to connect, laugh, and bond with one another. Our incredible MKC committee, along with their families, lovingly prepared and served a delicious spread of authentic Mangalorean food , including a special treat — homemade Vorn ! The warmth and effort put into every dish reminded everyone of the love and support that MKC strives to offer: a true home away from home. My father hails from the beautiful village of Yekkar, and my mother’s side is from Permude. Mangalore has always felt like home, and some of my most cherished memories are from the school holidays spent visiting my grandparents, extended family and cousins I got married in 2004 and, in 2006, my husband Jerry Fernandes and I moved to Melbourne. We are blessed with two wonderful daughters, Shania and Kiara. When it comes to hobbies, I love traveling—especially to places with mountains or scenic views. I enjoy watching comedies and, most importantly, spending quality time with my family, often playing board games together. What’s your favorite Mangalorean dish? Without a doubt, Panpole and Dukra Maas are my absolute favorites! What inspired you to join the committee? I joined the MKC committee to instill in my daughters the importance ...
