Richard & Philomen Fernandes honored for their selfless work for MKC

The Melbourne Konkan Community has been a beacon of pride for the past fifteen years, tirelessly working to unite Mangalore-origin Catholic people. Our mission is to promote the culture, heritage, Konkani language, values, and rituals of our Motherland and to ensure that these traditions are passed on to future generations, a task we undertake with unwavering dedication and a deep sense of connection.

Year after year, more than two thousand people attend various programs organized by MKC, which helps us develop brotherhood, foster relationships, and contribute to the development of the wider community, our state, and our nation.

We, the Melbourne Konkan Community, take this opportunity to honour one of our founding members with great pride and gratitude. Their immense contributions to MKC and the wider community in Melbourne’s west have left an indelible mark.

Residing in Melbourne with three children for the past twenty years, they have become motherly and fatherly figures to many in our community and their wider family members. Their home has always been open for MKC’s rehearsals, such as music, dance, and drama practices. They have been a guiding light for their wider family members during their initial arrival and settlement in Australia. Their embodiment of Christian values, showing kindness, compassion, sharing, and caring, is genuinely inspirational in today’s world.

Christian values, beliefs, and hard work have shaped their wonderful family, serving in local church organizations. Everyone cherishes their prayer life, charity, simplicity, hard work, kind words, smiling faces, and brightly shining light on people around them.
