Melbourne Konkan Community Cricket and Throwball Tournament 2024

 



Just wrapped up an exhilarating day at the MKC Cricket and Throwball Tournament, held at the picturesque Fawkner Park in South Yarra on Sunday, March 17, 2024. The event saw an enthusiastic gathering of teams bright and early, with registrations kicking off at 8 am sharp. After a hearty breakfast to fuel up, the games commenced, marking the beginning of a thrilling day of sports and camaraderie.

 

A heartfelt thank you to all the participants who made the event a resounding success! With over 300 attendees, this year's sports day boasted a record-breaking turnout, showcasing the vibrant spirit of our community.

 

Introducing women's cricket was a highlight of the day, providing a wonderful opportunity for more women to actively participate in sports. We're thrilled by the positive response and look forward to making women's cricket a regular feature of our future tournaments.

 


Mother Nature smiled upon us with perfect weather – sunny skies and a gentle breeze – creating the ideal backdrop for our outdoor festivities. Attendees relished a delightful breakfast spread of Idli Sambar and Sheera, lovingly prepared and served by the dedicated MKC committee. And let's not forget the mouthwatering Biryani served at lunch, satisfying hungry appetites and adding to the festive ambiance.

I was born and raised in the city of Mumbai, with two brothers—an older and a younger one. Though I grew up in Mumbai, my family roots are in Mangalore. My father hails from the beautiful village of Yekkar, and my mother’s side is from Permude. Mangalore has always felt like home, and some of my most cherished memories are from the school holidays spent visiting my grandparents, extended family and cousins I got married in 2004 and, in 2006, my husband Jerry Fernandes and I moved to Melbourne. We are blessed with two wonderful daughters, Shania and Kiara. When it comes to hobbies, I love traveling—especially to places with mountains or scenic views. In 2023, we are thrilled to have honored two outstanding individuals: Mira D'Silva and Nadine D'Silva.
