Our KYC series is back today, this is where you get to know more about our core committee members. Their journey to Melbourne and to MKC
The Treasurer - 💐 Valerian D'Souza continuing his role from last year he has humbly volunteered to help us this year too. We appreciate your committment and acknowledge the time taken manage such an important role.
✅Tell us about yourself?
I am a finance professional, a Chartered Accountant and CPA Australia. Currently working as an Associate Director – Business Partnering and Budgeting at Latrobe University. I have been living in Melbourne – Western Suburb since 2012 and been part of MKC since then.
✅Where in Mangalore do you come from?
I was born and brought up in Moodubelle, Udupi. Growing up in a family of 4 siblings ( 3 elder brothers and one younger sister) life was interesting with full of activities.
After my studies spent 10 years in Dubai working for private company in Finance and commercial roles. Apart from work in Dubai was also active in Bellevision committee for couple years including Treasurer role for one year
Married to Sunita in 2003 and blessed with two beautiful kids Aiden and Abigail. We moved to Melbourne in 2012
✅Your favourite Mangalorean dish?
Idli, Pork & Rice laddoos.
✅How did you know about MKC and what made you join the committee?
First three months in Melbourne was a struggle with the new place and very few friends. Then I was introduced to MKC which gave me new direction and lot of friends. After getting connected with MKC I never felt that I am away from my home town. MKC gave me the platform to build my network and mingle with the Mangalorean community here in Melbourne.
It’s an honour to be part of this vibrant Organisation which aims to bring Mangalorean community together and keep our culture alive through various events and community gatherings.
Apart from the committee member for most of the years, I also got the opportunity to serve as Treasurer and President of MKC in 2014-2015
✅Which MKC events are a personal favourite of yours?
I always look forward for Monthi fest Celebration and Sports day as this helps us to come together as one community and meet new members.
✅Your message to fellow community members?
Being part of MKC since 2012, I always encourage our community members to come forward and join MKC and help to grow this organisation and our community here in Melbourne.
