I was born and raised in the city of Mumbai, with two brothers—an older and a younger one. Though I grew up in Mumbai, my family roots are in Mangalore. My father hails from the beautiful village of Yekkar, and my mother’s side is from Permude. Mangalore has always felt like home, and some of my most cherished memories are from the school holidays spent visiting my grandparents, extended family and cousins I got married in 2004 and, in 2006, my husband Jerry Fernandes and I moved to Melbourne. We are blessed with two wonderful daughters, Shania and Kiara. When it comes to hobbies, I love traveling—especially to places with mountains or scenic views. I enjoy watching comedies and, most importantly, spending quality time with my family, often playing board games together. What’s your favorite Mangalorean dish?   Next on our KYC Series is our Vice President Mario Tauro I was born in Karkala and raised in Mumbai. I like to sing and play the keyboard I work as a Construction engineer. I love kori roti and always cherish the dish made in my hometown, as well as Dukra mass. I joined MKC to make a difference to the community in Melbourne and follow my customs and traditions.

  13th Annual General Meeting of Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) Melbourne: The 13th Annual General Meeting of the Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) was held on Sunday - October 13, 2024 in the Parish Hall of St Joseph’s Church, Northcote to elect their 14th President, core committee members, supporting office bearers and general members for the year 2024-25. Stephen P. D’Souza, the Chairperson and Returning Officer welcomed the gathering and oversaw the Annual General Meeting (AGM) proceedings. The AGM commenced with a prayer and a hymn, thanking the Lord for His choicest blessings during the past year and invoking blessings for the coming year. The minutes of the previous AGM were read by the outgoing Secretary Maxim Rego which was confirmed and passed.   Thank you to everyone that joined in for the Konkani Mass celebrated by Fr Vincent Coelho and Fr. Albert Crasta. They have really appreciated the time taken by the members to come and spend some time and were also happy that they could conduct a konkani mass filled with konkani songs by the wonderful choir. After mass it was a lovely oppurtunity for them to catch up with the community and share their experience and learn about life here. We pray for their good health and safe journey back to India.

Our mission is to promote the culture, heritage, Konkani language, values, and rituals of our Motherland and to ensure that these traditions are passed on to future generations, a task we undertake with unwavering dedication and a deep sense of connection. Year after year, more than two thousand people attend various programs organized by MKC, which helps us develop brotherhood, foster relationships, and contribute to the development of the wider community, our state, and our nation.
